I’m back with another tech review , and this time it’s the WATCH by Alcatel One Touch
When first saw the watch at The Clothes Show Live 2015 I was more than excited to experience what it had to offer . As a predominantly apple user , people who know me expected me to jump at the idea of the apple watch , however it just didn’t appeal to me . The overall square and chunky design of the apple watch looks as though it was designed for a man. That being said its been quite hard to find a female alternative that is sleek & fashionable for the woman tech lovers out there like myself. That is until I experienced the WATCH.
As for the overall design , I think its great! The face of the watch is sleek and comes with three design options ranging from a classic no numbered watch to a digital style watch . The strap is available in either white or black with a comfort padding on the interior , allowing you to make the perfect adjustment to fit your wrist . There is a clasp to keep it closed, meaning it can never fully open like a traditional watch, it’s designed more like an adjustable bracelet.
The WATCH features a charging usb stick built into the strap which I personally think is the best idea i’ve seen compared to other smart watches. Others require an external wire to charge, which I think is their biggest downfall.
The screen menu design is bright and colourful , which I love, and the watch face can be customized if you pair it with the mobile app.
Although there are several features of this watch I found myself not actually taking advantage of them as much as I thought I would. I mainly check my social media notifications and adjust my music when i’m on the go , and i’ve recently started tracking my sleep. It’s quite interesting to see how many hours of sleep are deep and how many are light.
THE BEST FEATURES
- customizable watch face
- weather update
- heart rate sensor
- step tracker
- sleep tracker
- social media notification board
- music remote
- camera remote
- reminders calendar events
- phone answer or hang up
you can get a full list of features from the WATCH website
The battery will last for roughly 2 days if I don’t utilize any of the tracking features, however if i’m in full activity use , the watch will last about 1.5 days and need charging. Luckily charging is convenient and only takes about 1hour!
THINGS I WISH WERE BETTER
I personally would have loved the ability to use tracking without requirement of the smart phone app. Although the phone syncs quite regularly , sometimes I have to manually go in and tell it to sync, which can been annoying, if I just wanted to quickly turn on a feature. The watch strap is beautifully designed , however its very finicky to put on and can easily pop open if your watch is too tight. I personally prefer my watch to be very tight on my wrist and this design doesn’t really help that. I also wish there were more features such as the ability to do a quick reply to the notification, or an expanded view of a text message rather than half in the notification.
4/5 overall rating | current price £79.95 (Argos)
Based on the price and features I would recommend this for someone who wants a simple easy to use smart watch , however due to the lack of features I wouldn’t recommend this to the major techie . Sorry you’ll have to save your gaming and app needs for a different watch!
